La Porte jobs from our records
Eight residential jobs from our 2025 and 2026 records, by month, with no names or addresses:
• 77571, August 2026: water leaking on the yard line between the meter and the house, with the main already shut off. We dug down, found and repaired the leaking fitting, and put the yard back.
• 77571, August 2026: replaced a toilet and repaired the closet flange under it.
• 77571, July 2026: gas water heater stopped heating. Replaced the igniter.
• 77571, June 2026: clogged AC drain line cleared, then two safety float switches installed so the system shuts itself off before the pan overflows.
• 77571, May 2026: kitchen sink and washer backing up. We reworked the kitchen drain line through the wall to the outside, added a clean-out, and ran the camera through the line afterward.
• 77571, March 2026: indoor blower motor failed. Replaced the blower motor.
• 77571, October 2025: leaky ductwork. We resealed every duct connection and pulled the air handler to reseal the supply plenum from the inside.
• 77571, June 2025: installed a new 4-ton gas furnace, cleaned the evaporator coil and added an access door to it.
Every job above is 77571 because the whole city is one ZIP code. About two-thirds of our visits here are AC and heating; roughly one in three is plumbing.
Condenser fan motors and capacitors: the part La Porte wears out
Most AC calls here are one system on an older house, and the part that shows up most in our 77571 records is the condenser fan motor or its capacitor: the outside unit hums but the fan won’t spin. Units from 2008 to 2018 are still worth repairing when the failed part is a motor or capacitor. Condensate is the other repeat, like the June 2026 job, where we cleared the line and added two float switches. See AC repair and AC maintenance.
Replacing a furnace or a whole system in a house from 1983
The Census puts the median home in 77571 at 1983, and about 43% of the houses were built before 1980. At that age the equipment is rarely original; what’s in the attic now is often the second or third system, and the question is whether the next big repair is worth it. The June 2025 job was a straight answer: a new 4-ton gas furnace, the coil cleaned rather than replaced, and an access door added so it can be cleaned again.
The estimate is free, most installs finish in one day, and we install any major brand except American Standard. A new AC system carries our 1-year labor warranty; the manufacturer’s parts warranty is separate. See AC replacement and installation and heat pumps.
Heating checks for a bayside house that saw 16°F in 2021
The National Weather Service table for February 2021 shows 16°F here, and the last Hard Freeze Warning didn’t lift until the Saturday morning. A furnace in a 1980s house sits idle from March to November, so the first cold morning is when a weak igniter or dirty flame sensor shows up. We’d rather find it in a November check. See heating and furnace repair.
Ducts: a supply plenum resealed from the inside
Duct work comes up again and again in our 77571 calls: new runs, extra vents, relocated returns, and the October 2025 job, where every connection was resealed and the air handler came out so we could seal the supply plenum from inside. In a 40-year-old house the ducts are often the one part nobody has replaced, and leaky supply runs in a hot attic are why one room never cools. See air duct cleaning.
Water heaters: an igniter, a leaking tank and the gas connection
After drains, water heaters are the next plumbing call we get from 77571. Sometimes it’s a part, like the igniter in July 2026; sometimes it’s a tank past ten years that has started to leak, and a leaking tank is a replacement.
Two calls here were about the gas line feeding a water heater; we run and pressure-test gas piping from the meter to the appliance. Smell gas? Get everyone outside, then call 911 and CenterPoint. See water heater repair and replacement, tankless water heaters and gas lines.
The yard line between the City meter and the house
The City of La Porte owns the water line up to your meter. From the meter to the house it’s yours, and that stretch is where the August 2026 leak was: a fitting we dug up, repaired and covered back over. On a 1970s house with worn water lines we can replace the whole set. We don’t do slab leak repair. See water leak repair, plumbing repair, toilet repair and repiping.
Kitchen and washer drains, clean-outs and the camera
Drains are the plumbing call we get most here: kitchen sinks, washer standpipes and tubs. Older kitchen lines often have no usable clean-out, which is why the May 2026 job ended with one added outside before we ran the camera.
The camera inspection is part of the free diagnostic and you keep the video. Hydro jetting on a sound line carries a 90-day warranty; drain clearing doesn’t carry a warranty. We don’t put a jetter on old cast iron or clay. See drain cleaning, sewer line repair and hydro jetting.
